The PETS Act is a federal law passed in 2006, the year after Hurricane Katrina, and resulted from the national attention Katrina put on how people with animals are treated during an emergency.
CLE credit is free for "volunteer" time or $35. All state public defenders and non-profit attorneys are fully free. Net proceeds from any course fees will go to the Kinship Circle, the Humane Society of Louisiana and, possibly, other animal welfare organizations.
The PUBLIC and Lawyers *not* seeking CLE credit: Enter in the Bar Number - 123; and, answer, Will you be paying? - NO.
LAWYERS requesting credit in exchange for volunteering or requesting a free course (any reason), then answer "NO" below to "Will you be paying?" Answering YES, you will be paying will be redirected to a secure payment site or will receive an email with payment information.
LAWYERS taking a class for credit must include your bar number.**
Lawyers requesting free courses should contact [email protected]. Suggested non-legal and legal activities to be completed within 1 year of the CLE will be sent with credit confirmation. The rate requested will be 2x the volunteer time as the CLE credit, and options are online, in person, scheduled, and at your own convenience. All non-profit staff attorneys and state public defenders are exempt from the requirement to "volunteer" or pay for credit.
